Health, Safety and Environment in Trenchless Work

The critical hazards of trenchless job sites, environmental risks and public safety.

Crane lifting a load on a job site

Module preview

4 of 29 slides, as they appear in the module.

  • Slide 1 Health, Safety and Environment in Trenchless Work

  • Slide 8 Welding and compressed gases: what do you see?

  • Slide 12 Cranes on a trenchless job site

  • Slide 25 Drilling fluids: spill and inadvertent return

Because trenchless projects are relatively rare, managing their health and safety can be complex. This module reviews the critical hazards found on these job sites: lifting, excavations and pits, pneumatic energy, confined spaces and work near water, among others.

It also covers environmental risks (spills, drilling fluid returns, noise) and protecting the public around the site.

Objectives

By the end of the module, you will be able to:

  • Recognize the critical hazards specific to trenchless job sites
  • Apply the associated preventive measures
  • Prevent environmental risks
  • Protect the public around the job site
